Recently, we learned that Intel will be offering extended warranties on no less than 24 processors. This extension is clearly linked to the instability problems encountered by 13th and 14th generation CPUs. However, not all brands have announced their intention to apply this Intel warranty extension!
Contacted by The Verge, not all assemblers will apply the Intel warranty extension!
A number of assemblers were contacted by The Verge to find out whether they would apply the extended warranty promised by Intel. The feedback was, to say the least… Mixed. Indeed, there doesn’t seem to be any uniform policy, and brands are obviously doing things a bit differently.
Among American assemblers, we find Digital Storm, Falcon Northwest, iBuyPower, Maingear, HP and ASUS all applying the five-year policy to the letter. Corsair and Origin PC are at four years, while Puget Systems is at three.
Here, the poor performers are clearly Acer, NZXT, Dell/Alienware, who announce that they don’t want to extend their warranties. We assume that here, it’s minimum service. However, in the event of instability, Acer and NZXT invite their customers to contact them, while Dell/Alienware will cover all costs. Let’s hope they don’t bury their heads in the sand.
That was for the American side, now for Europe, it remains to be seen what will be done about it. Let’s not spit in the soup: consumer protection is one of the good things about the EU. One of the few, at least.
