Little by little, the 0x12B patch is making its way. Initially deployed by MSI, we know that it is now offered by Gigabyte, but also ASRock and ASUS, at least since the end of September!

The 0x12B patch is now available at all major hardware stores!

Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Pro XAs a reminder, Intel Raptor Lake (Refresh) processors are affected by an instability problem known as Vmin Shift. Basically, the CPUs take on more and more voltage until they suffer irreversible damage, making them totally unstable… And unusable.

In order to correct this problem, Intel reacted in several phases by proposing a new basic profile, applied as standard to all motherboards. Next came a patch for the eTVB and then the SVID algorithm via patches 0x125 and 0x129. With 0x12B, Intel is proposing a final fix for the firmware, which tended to apply excessively high voltages during low periods of activity.

In short, this patch has been deployed by all the major motherboard manufacturers. These include MSI (which we’ve already mentioned), Gigabyte (not on all boards), ASUS (still in Beta, on the Hero at least) and ASRock. This release happened more or less at the same time. Logically, by updating your motherboard, the problem is now corrected.

However, while the major players have already updated their bios, not everyone has. One example is NZXT and its N7 Z790 (which we use for our case tests), which has still not released anything. The latest version is still 13.01 with patch 0x125… Even Biostar offers the patch, admittedly in beta, but it is available.

Little by little, things are settling down and gradually, this Vmin Shift problem will be a thing of the past. We just hope that the blue guys haven’t missed something.
