ASUS has not played all its cards on the AM5 socket, as there is still one very high-end motherboard to be released. The company is launching its Crosshair X870E Extreme, a successor model to the X670E. On the program, you’ll find a ton of functionality and a meticulous construction. At the same time, for a card expected to cost over €100, it better!
Crosshair X870E Extreme: the top of the top!
On the program, we find a large card in E-ATX format. It draws its power from a dual EPS12V connector for the CPU and a single ATX 24-pin connector at an angle of 90°. Although the number of power supply stages is not specified, it would appear that there are more than 22 phases.
The connectivity is necessarily complete, very complete in fact. As you can see, there are four memory slots here. For the moment, we don’t yet know how much memory the card can handle, or at what speed. The PCIe part is entrusted to two x16 slots, with the first running in x16 to standard 5.0. The second is wired in x4 and 4.0 standard.
As for the M.2 part, the first slot benefits from a massive heatsink with a large heat pipe. The latter benefits from a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. Otherwise, a second M.2 2280 will also benefit from a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, while the other two will be PCIe 4.0 x4. Finally, there is a DIMM.2 slot for additional connectors.
On the card, you can expect all the latest innovations in PC assembly. The Q-Release Slim is present, but in a revised version. The first M.2 slot can be fitted without tools, while the WiFi antenna is easy to install.
Audio is handled by an ALC4082 chip, combined with an ESS ES9219 DAC, while networking benefits from dual 10 and 5 GbE Ethernet. Of course, the USB section is on steroids, with 40 Gbps ports, etc.
For the moment, we have no idea of price or availability. However, expect a price tag in excess of €1,000, as was the case with the X670E Extreme. This is a card that will rival the MEG X870E Godlike or Aorus X870E Extreme. As a reminder, we’ve already shown the ROG Crosshair X870 HERO and we’re waiting for a copy of the APEX.
