In addition to the presentation of its new RX 7000 graphics cards, AMD has made some interesting announcements regarding its involvement in the gaming ecosystem. The most interesting point on this topic is the announcement that AMD and Ubisoft have partnered to optimize the new version of the snowdrop engine. This engine will run Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars project and the Splinter Cell remake, as well as many others.
This partnership allows advanced optimization of raytracing, rendering of 4K games but also the use of FSR, the AMD techno competing with DLSS. A brief technical demo of Snowdrop Engine was presented to give an idea of a 4K scene with high performance raytracing activated. Here is the extract here :
Under these conditions, the demo runs at more than 80 fps with the help of FSR. Apart from Ubisoft, AMD also mentioned its ongoing collaborations for the titles Forspoken or The Callisto Protocol. The optimization for the new RX 7900 will allow for 4K gaming with most levels of detail pushed to the max. For now, it’s hard to know how the performance of the new cards will materialize in these games. But AMD is particularly ambitious with FSR 3, which promises to double the performance of FSR 2. On this technology, Nvidia’s DLSS keeps several steps ahead thanks to a long-standing involvement with game developers. AMD also wants to put the package at this level.
