The market is currently in turmoil since the AI sector is cannibalizing a large part of memory production. Manufacturers of graphics cards and DDR5 memory modules are therefore having to make concessions and select which products to prioritize as prices rise. We have now learned that AMD prices are set to rise further, with the focus on 8 GB cards.

AMD: more price increases and prioritization of 8 GB card production!

Les annonces AMD au CES 2025

This (bad) news comes from the Chinese forum Board Channels, where we learn that AMD’s partners are expected to raise their prices in February/March. While the percentage increase is not yet known, we can reasonably expect an increase of up to 10%… Again. Remember that a first increase already took place in early January.

But that’s not all, because in addition to rising prices, we can expect the focus to be on cards with small amounts of memory. As a result, the RX 9060 XT 8 GB and other RX 7650 GRE cards would be prioritized in production. The reason is simple: these cards are more profitable because they are cheaper to produce. It is therefore more attractive for brands to produce two cards rather than one with the same amount of memory.

This will inevitably drive up the prices of 16 GB models. As these are becoming increasingly scarce due to lower production volumes, availability is likely to vary between retailers. So if you’re planning to buy a new graphics card, don’t delay. Currently, there is no doubt that prices will continue to rise.

Finally, it also appears that mainland China will be the first to be impacted by these price increases. On our side, the impact will be felt, but… later!
