Currently, to upgrade to AM5, you need a serious budget. It’s true that Ryzen 7000s have come down in price, but that’s not the case with motherboards. Currently, the most affordable model is 199.99 € for a B650M DS3H from Gigabyte. However, AMD is reportedly working on chips for its upcoming A620 chipset, which should make motherboards more affordable!
A620: two chips to lower the price of motherboards!
According to HKEPC, to produce its A620 chipsets, AMD could base itself, at first, on its PROM21 chips. As a reminder, these are the chips currently in use in the B650 and X670 motherboards. To make it a new entry-level device, the company would have to disable many of its features. However, this forces AMD to use more high-end chips to put them in low-cost motherboards.
That’s why we would see PROM22-based chipsets that respect the A620’s characteristics. Nevertheless, it would be produced with just “what it takes”. There would be no question of a bigger chipset with disabled features.
There will be two versions of the AMD A620 chip, the "Promontory 21" chip will be used at the beginning, and the new A620 chip (Promontory 22 ??) will be launched later with the same specifications.

In any case, with this new chipset, AMD could finally keep its promise to see AM5 motherboards land at $125, allowing it to boost its Ryzen 7000 sales.
