Bad news for Reddit user ProfessionalHost3913, who also saw the power connector on his RX 9070 XT Nitro go up in smoke. Indeed, this is the third AMD card to see its connector burn. The first was an ASRock Taichi, the second a Sapphire Nitro and the third this one.
RX 9070 XT Nitro: a second connector goes up in smoke!
As you can see, the power connector – well, the adapter – has clearly taken a beating. It shows burn marks on the pins responsible for routing power to the graphics card. Clearly, the power connector is out of order, and it’s a safe bet that the graphics card connector has taken a beating too.
However, according to the owner, the card is still functional. The PC still boots and the card still outputs a display. However, as soon as a game is launched, the PC displays a black screen. The same applies to web browsing, where black screens appear at random. When this happens, the PC needs to be restarted.
Of course, the card owner indicates that he has undervolted his card and that the adapter has never reached 600W of power. Nevertheless, this connector really doesn’t spare any graphics card on the market… Even the rare RTX 3060 Ti, which consumes no power at all, has seen its power connector melt!
This time, the RMA is likely to be more complicated to obtain, since the user received his card as a gift and, unfortunately, the brand requires proof of purchase to validate the after-sales return request… Which is a shame, considering that the cards were released 8 months ago.
In any case, we expect new reports to surface as time goes on. But then again, it was a card that died while an adapter was in use!
