AMD has been trying to maintain support for the AM4 platform for some time now, even after 7 years of existence and the release of the AM5 generation 2 years ago. Recently, AMD launched the 5800XT and 5900XT processors for the AM4 platform. Six months ago, the 3D V-Cache range was also enhanced with the 5700X3D, another model in the X3D series. However, AMD has no intention of stopping there. Leaks suggest the arrival of a Ryzen 5 5500X3D.
The existing X3D models on AM4, such as the 5800X3D and 5700X3D, are equipped with 8 cores. On the other hand, the future Ryzen 5 5500X3D will have 6 cores, just like the 5600X3D launched last year as a special edition reserved for the US market. This new model would have a base frequency of 3.0 GHz and a boost frequency of 4.0 GHz, slightly lower than those of the Ryzen 5700X3D, which runs at 3.1 GHz base and 4.1 GHz boost. However, it shares the same 96 MB L3 cache as the other models in the X3D range.
As of yet, AMD has not revealed the price or release date of this model. However, the company seems determined to maintain its commitment to the AM4 platform by offering affordable processors for budget configurations or for upgrading existing platforms. The price should be competitive.
