As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we’ve just received a unit of the Alphacool Core 2 XT 420 mm cooling system. Alphacool offers four different versions: 240, 280, 360, and 420 mm. The model we received is therefore the largest and the one that will offer the best cooling performance. Alphacool’s goal is clear: to come close to the performance and flexibility of a custom water-cooling build while maintaining the ease of installation of an all-in-one system.

Our 420 mm Alphacool Core 2 XT comes in a brown cardboard box featuring a technical diagram of the cooling system on the front, with all annotations in blue. It really looks great!

As for pricing, it starts at 250 euros for the 240 mm model and goes up to 300 euros for the unit we’re reviewing today. So the price difference between the four models isn’t very significant! The entire lineup is compatible with AMD (AM4 / AM5) and Intel (LGA 1700 / LGA 1851) processors.

What’s new with this Core 2 XT model?

The NexXxoS HPE cooler:

Let’s start with the NexXxoS HPE (High Performance Edition) heatsink, which is the latest iteration of the NexXxoS heatsink. This version features flow channels, fins, and end chambers made entirely of pure copper. The HPE series increases the number of internal channels and fins compared to the standard NexXxoS models. The goal is to provide optimal heat transfer and deliver high cooling capacity.

Alphacool’s concept—as with the previous Eisbaer Extreme series—is to offer a cooling system that’s ready to install yet remains customizable! This allows you to modify the cooling loop by adding, for example, a second radiator or a water block for your GPU. The ability to fill your loop through the plug at the base of the radiator gives you complete freedom.

The Apex Stealth Aurora Fans:

To handle cooling, Alphacool equips this kit with Apex Stealth Aurora fans. Depending on the kit model you purchase, you’ll receive either 120mm or 140mm models. These models stand out for their unique structural design and premium positioning. They feature a solid, all-metal frame mounted on a rigid die-cast metal chassis. The entire motor and impeller assembly does not come into direct contact with the outer metal frame, which absorbs most of the micro-vibrations before they are transmitted to the radiator or the case.

For fans of backlighting, our three fans are equipped with aRGB LED lighting (5V addressable). The 12 LEDs are integrated into the center of the hub or along the inner edges of the frame to diffuse even light across the translucent blades. The speed ranges from 300 to 2,000 RPM, with an airflow of 75.12 CFM, a static pressure of 2.36 mmH₂O, and a maximum noise level of 32.8 dBA.

The Core DC-LT 3 PWM Pump:

The Alphacool Core DC-LT 3 PWM pump is the third generation of the renowned DC-LT series of ultra-compact pumps, designed specifically for space-saving builds (SFF / Mini-ITX), custom AiOs, or narrow combo reservoirs.

One of the improvements in this new generation is the integration of a redesigned three-phase sinusoidal-driven motor to eliminate the “clicking” or low-RPM noise that sometimes affected the DC-LT V1/V2. It offers pump speed control via a 4-pin PWM signal connected directly to the motherboard.

Finally, the base that contacts your processor is built on proven technology. The cooling structure is based on Core 1 water block technology and ensures efficient heat transfer from the processor to the water loop. This is the first time Core 1 technology has been integrated into such a compact AIO design. Since we currently have several components to test, we’ll install it on our AORUS Infinity X870 motherboard.
