ASUS and MSI were the first; Gigabyte is now following suit and offering full support for CXMT memory. This requires BIOS updates on AM5 motherboards, while on Intel platforms, this support is built-in and does not require any specific updates. Gigabyte is doing this to offer greater flexibility in memory selection, especially as CXMT RAM modules are gaining popularity!
Gigabyte: CXMT RAM Support Is Here!Â
Updates for AMD platforms!Â
As with MSI and ASUS, Gigabyte’s AMD platforms will require a minor BIOS update. This update, based on AMD’s AGESA 1.3.0.1c code, provides the necessary optimizations for proper support of memory modules equipped with CXSH chips from CXMT. This means you’ll no longer be limited in frequency and can reach 8,200 MT/s with memory kits featuring chips from the Chinese giant. These updates apply to motherboards in the 600 and 800 series.
No update is required for Intel systems:
While a BIOS update is required for AMD 600 and 800 series motherboards, this is not the case for Intel models using 600 and 700 series chipsets. On these models, support is built-in, and you can already achieve significant frequencies.
In short, Gigabyte took a little longer than MSI or ASUS to ensure support for the Chinese memory on its AMD platforms. But better late than never, as they say. Furthermore, CXMT RAM could become increasingly common in future modules. So, preparing for its support isn’t a bad idea.
