Oops, MSI confirms Intel 14th Gen core configurations!

MSI has made a small blunder (intentional or not) by leaking a video presenting the new 14th Gen Core i processors. In the video, a slide confirms, in broad outline, what this generation of processors will be like. So, are there any big changes in store? Well, no… Except perhaps for one CPU.

14th Gen: no big changes after all

MSI Intel Core i 14e GenSo what does this 14th generation of Intel processors have in store for us? Well, not much, but that’s to be expected since it’s a refresh. Now, thanks to MSI, we can see what Intel has in store for us with this series.

Finally, the real news concerns the Core i7 14700K, which sees its core configuration change. Compared to the 13700K, it gains four more efficient cores, and now boasts an 8 P-Core, 12 E-Core configuration. MSI indicates that this will result in a 17% increase in multi-threading performance, a gain already measured here.

Otherwise, all in all, we’re talking about performance gains of around 3% for 13th-generation Core i CPUs. Let’s not kid ourselves: this slight increase is due to a rise in frequency. Yes, there will be no architectural changes, as Micro-Star International (MSI’s full name) has once again confirmed.

Finally, there’s no change to the engraving either. This 14th Gen still benefits from Intel’s 10 nm 7 process.

Broadly speaking, it’s simply a refresh with no real novelty. So if you have a Core i 13th Gen, there’s no reason to opt for this series. Only the Core i7 14700K will benefit from a real change in core configuration. So one wonders why Intel is bothering to offer this generation for the few changes it brings… Artificial novelty, surely.
