Galax launches its HOF Extreme 50 PCIe 5.0 SSD for €330

After unveiling its PCIe Gen5 SSD at the end of December for Computex, the brand is finally launching its product on the markets. The HOF Extreme 50 makes its first appearance in China where it lands at 2499 yuan, or about 330 € after conversion, the 2 TB.

HOF Extreme 50: PCIe Gen5 SSD with 10 GB/s!

Galax HOF Extreme 50With this new model, the Galax brand offers us an SSD in M.2 format with a PCIe 5.0 interface. Right away, the announced performances are quite interesting. Indeed, the 2Tb version proposes, on paper, sequential speeds of 10Gb/s in reading against 9.5Gb/s in writing. The random performance is 1500k IOPS in reading against 1250k IOPS in writing. Next to that, the 1TB model will be a bit slower with its 9.5GB/s sequential read against 8.5GB/s sequential write. Finally, the random performances are 1300k IOPS in reading and 1100k IOPS in writing.

Under the hood, the brand uses a memory controller from Phison with the E26. Similarly, we find memory chips type 3D TLC in 232 layers and a DRAM LPDDR4 cache.

Finally, the brand opts for an active heatsink with a very small fan. It remains to be seen whether it will be noisy like the one from CFD Gaming or not. However, Galax indicates that it will allow the SSD to stabilize between 40°C and 45°C during heavy use.
