“How many of us have had our PCs reboot after applying a system update? A particularly annoying problem, since it forces us to stand behind the computer until it shuts down completely, to make sure it’s properly shut down. According to the latest rumours, this bug has now been corrected. Gone are the days when you have to reach behind your PC or discover that your laptop has a flat battery!
Windows 11: “Update and Stop” works!
In broad terms, this is a bug that’s at least a decade old, dating back to the introduction of Windows 10… That’s how rushed Microsoft is on some points. In any case, update 26200.7019 on 25H2 and 26100.7019 on 24H2 fixes this problem, if the latest reports are to be believed.
However, Microsoft has not revealed the causes of this bug, but it is not impossible that they are linked to the sequential sequence of tasks that the system must perform. Indeed, when updates are applied, the system restarts in offline mode during a service phase. It is during this period that the updates are applied to the system. Once applied, the system reboots once again, and this is where the shutdown command would be lost. So, rather than shutting down the PC, the machine restarts while waiting for a connection to a session.
In this kind of situation, if you have a fixed machine, it’s usually not a major problem, except for your power consumption. On a laptop, it’s a little more annoying, especially if you’ve disabled sleep mode. It’s not uncommon to find your laptop without a battery the next day, when you’re getting ready for work, for example.
