Having all three home consoles at home is great, as it allows you to play exclusive games on each platform. However, it takes up space and generates a lot of cables. In short, while it’s good for your entertainment, it’s not so good for your TV stand. That’s where modder XNZ comes in, presenting her project: combining all three consoles into one!

Ningtendo PXBOX5: three consoles in one!

This project required work on several important aspects, such as the cooling system and the power supply. But overall, these steps were completed successfully.

Broadly speaking, it was decided to keep only the motherboards from the Xbox and PS5 consoles. As for the Switch, it fits into a dedicated slot but can be ejected from the unit to preserve its portable console concept.

As for cooling, the heat sink was designed from scratch, but manufacturing it was no easy task. The initial idea was to produce a block machined by CNC, but the costs were too high, several thousand yuan. It was therefore decided to cast the heat sink (in gypsum with a 3D-printed pattern that would melt on contact with the molten aluminum) and mount copper plates on it to ensure contact with the consoles’ SoCs. Then, a fan was mounted under this block, and that was it. In practice, the heat dissipation is effective, and the PS5 ran for 30 minutes while gaming at a temperature of 60°C.

For the power supply, it’s simple: the PS5 and Xbox were connected in series to a 250W power brick, which is sufficient as long as the two consoles don’t launch games at the same time. As for the Switch, aUSB-C power supply was used from atrigger board. Finally, to switch the display from one console to another, anHDMI switchcontrolled by a button is installed.

This makes it possible to combine the three consoles into a single unit while keeping everything functional. The Switch 2 even has an eject button to switch it back to portable mode!
