Small tour at Supermicro which announces two new motherboards. The American brand is back in the consumer motherboard sector with two C9Z790-CG. It must be said that it has been a few years since the brand has announced anything in this sector.

C9Z790-CG, two consumer boards!

Supermicro C9Z790-CGWith its new cards, the brand offers models in E-ATX format. They are equipped with a Z790 chipset and a LGA-1700 socket . This is enough to serenely accommodate 12th and 13th generation Intel Core i.

As you can see, the two cards are very similar and share more or less the same connectivity. At the PCIe level, we have two 5.0 x16 standard ports capable of working in x8/x8 when both are occupied. There is also a small x1 3.0 port at the bottom.

Regarding the memory, we find four RAM slots in DDR5 for a capacity of 128 GB clocked at 4400 MT/s.

The storage part has six SATA III connectors. And this is where the difference between the CG and the CGW comes into play. The second card has an additional M.2 Key slot to install a WiFi module. Otherwise, the cards offer two M.2, one in PCIe 4.0 x4 and the other in PCIe 3.0 x4.

Of course, we have all the usual USB trio. However, what interests us here is the dual network part based on Marvell AQC113 and Intel i219V chips. As for the audio, we have the right to Realtek ALC1220.

As for the price, beware, it’s spicy since the CG version is displayed at $790 on Amazon against $1399 on Newegg… Outch !
