Still linked to the instability problem with the 13th and 14th i Core, the situation is getting tense in Hong Kong. Synnex, a major Intel hardware distributor, finds itself in a tricky situation. The company does not have sufficient stocks of Core i9-14900Ks to meet all replacement requests in the event of a warranty claim. Instead, refunds are being issued.
Core i9 14900K: shortages of replacement CPUs!
It’s clear that this is a major problem, because for one of Intel’s major hardware distributors, making replacements is becoming complicated. Stocks of CPUs are gradually dwindling and the company is now having to issue refunds. So, in the event of damage to the CPU as a result of this Vmin Instability problem, the merchant is offering compensation of HK$4200, or around €490 at current conversion rates. In other words, the refund is less than the MSRP of the CPU.
Naturally, this delicate situation is forcing users to opt for AMD hardware. Here, we read about a customer who accepted the compensation, sold his platform to a friend and then switched to a Ryzen 9 9950X combo and an AM5 motherboard. But more generally, this is a generation best avoided. If you’re planning to buy a new PC, either switch to AMD, or wait for the Arrow Lake launch (which has been pushed back a week).
