AMD recently released its RADEON Software 25.10.2 driver, a major update that included a number of bug fixes. At the same time, however, AMD announced that the RX 5000 and RX 6000 had been placed in ” maintenance mode “… A somewhat watered-down communication to say that the cards would no longer receive day-1 gaming support as indicated by the Reds. Today, the brand has come back to this information, rather… Clumsily.
RX 6000 and RX 5000: AMD clarifies its policy, but remains vague!
This time, the company is back in the news, stating that :
“New features, bug fixes and game support will continue to be delivered as required by market needs in the maintenance mode branch.”
Well, if you’ve understood something, good for you, however, it’s not entirely clear, and sounds very much like a tongue-in-cheek attempt to calm tempers. On the one hand, we fully understand the frustration of RX 6000 customers who bought their cards at a hyper-inflated price. Yes, the RX 6000 was launched during the cryptocurrency mining crisis. De facto, the cards weren’t selling at their advertised price. This was a double stab in the back for consumers, who not only paid too much for their cards, but also found themselves with truncated software support!
Finally, with these cards, we can expect support to be on the ups and downs. Support for new games will depend on the brand’s available resources. However, make no mistake, this is not a legacy mode where cards receive a quarterly update to correct critical security issues, it’s just an intermediate mode between discontinued support and full support.
In any case, AMD’s communication here is deliberately vague, since it all depends on what is meant by “market need”.
