China is about to get its hands on a 4090 once again. Following export restrictions on the RTX 4090 due to its high performance, rumors quickly surfaced. The Chameleon was working on a replacement model in the form of an RTX 4090 D, slightly limited so as to be exportable!

RTX 4090 D: launch in China on December 28?

RTX 4090 DFollowing the U.S. government’s decision to restrict the export of products destined for AI, the 4090 found itself caught in a trap. With its 5286 TPP, NVIDIA’s flagship exceeded the 4800 TPP limit by around 10%. A replacement solution had to be found. This is why version D is due to be released shortly.

To avoid sanctions, NVIDIA would opt for a slightly neutered GPU for its card. This would mean switching to an AD102-250, which would be missing a few SMs. However, there’s no change as regards memory. We’ll still find 24 GB of 384-bit GDDR6X, enabling bandwidth in excess of 1 TB/s.

Finally, other rumors suggest a higher base frequency of 2280 MHz than the non-D 4090, while the boost frequency would be identical: 2520 MHz. Nooverclocking possible here. As for the price, it’s likely to be the same: 12,999 yuan. To confirm all this, all we have to do is wait until December 28. It remains to be seen whether the cards will be diverted for use in AI-oriented machines, which is not impossible.
