During CES, NVIDIA demonstrated the capabilities of its future RTX 4080 laptop. During the exercise, limited to 50W of consumption, the GPU did better than the RTX 3080 Ti of former generation!
RTX 4080 laptop, it sends heavy!
During CES, NVIDIA demonstrated the capabilities of its future RTX 4080 for laptops. Thus, via two Razer PCs, we could see what the card was capable of. Of course, one was equipped with the famous 4080 while the second was equipped with an RTX 3080 Ti.
Thus, on Cyberpunk 2077 the 4080 displayed 77 FPS against 64 FPS. Well, a 20% performance gain is always good to take. But what is interesting is to note the power consumption recorded for these two models. Indeed, the 4080 was simply limited to 50W of power consumption while the 3080 Ti was close to 150W without any limitation.
If on a more conventional machine the notions of consumption are less important, on a laptop, it’s a different story. Dividing the power consumption by three means less heating, less noise and above all, a more compact and lighter machine. The result is a PC that is more pleasant to use and to move around.
However, we would be curious to see what the difference between the two cards would be on other games. Since during this demo, NVIDIA technologies such as DLSS 3.0 or Ray Tracing were activated. So we can expect a reduction in the performance gap between the two models.
