Review: KFA² TG-001 and TG-002 Thermal Paste

A few months ago, we tested the new thermal paste from NZXT, which allowed us to set up a protocol and also measure four other thermal paste models, including the KFA² TG-001. Today, we have the new TG-002 version in test, let’s see if it can do better than its big sister. These thermal pastes are available in Spain at Coolmod for respectively 1.5 € TG-001 and 1.95 € for the TG-002. The TG-001 version is also available in between 4.5 € and 4.99 €.

[nextpage title=”The KFA² TG-001 and TG-002 Thermal Paste:”] The TG-001 and TG-002 are sold in plastic packages, they contain all the important information. Inside, we have the thermal paste tubes and a spatula in bundle.

The tubes are identical in size and have labels with all the necessary information. Here, no view on the remaining thermal paste level.

You will notice that the tube of the TG-002 is fuller than that of the TG-001. The reason is simple: the densities of the two pastes differ by 34%. The spatula provided with the TG-001 will be useless, because this thermal paste is impossible to spread before mounting the cooling. We recommend to apply it crosswise on the IHS of the CPU.

Regarding the specifications of these pastes, we are on a density of 2.6g/ml for the TG-001 and 3.5g/ml for the TG-002. No figures concerning their thermal conductivity. But we still have those of the viscosity, with 100 Pa.s for the TG-001 and 100-1200 Pa.s for the TG002. Here is a table of the different thermal pastes tested on our configuration. Here is the configuration that will be used for the test:

  • Motherboard : EVGA Z690 DARK KINGPIN (BIOS XOC 0.00)
  • Processor : INTEL CORE I9 12900KS
  • Memory : 2x16gb ADATA XPG LANCER RGB 6000C40
  • Graphics Card : GTX 750 ti
  • Cooling system : Watercool Heatkiller IV basic + MO-RA3 420
  • SSD : Western Digital SN850 500gb
  • Power supply : Be Quiet ! Dark Power Pro 12 1200W
  • Operating system : Windows 11 64 bits (version 21H2)
  • Screen : DELL S2421NX

[nextpage title=”Results:”] Our thermal paste test protocol is very young, it is based on an Intel Alderlake platform with an I9-12900KS and an EVGA Z690 DARK KINGPIN. The tests are performed under the same conditions with a Heatkiller IV waterblock at constant pressure.

Protocol:

The I9 12900KS is set to get 250W of load on cinebench R20. The Pcore are at 5200MHz, the Ecore at 4000MHz and the cache at 4400MHz for a voltage of 1,335V bios LLC +25%. Thermal paste applications are done crosswise on the CPU, this is the method that works best with all thermal pastes on the market. The waterblock is mounted and tightened to the screw stop to let the springs apply the right pressure.

EVGA DARK KINGPIN test pate thermique étalageThen, a cinebench R23 stress test is run to bring the thermal paste up to temperature with 10min of heavy load. Finally, three R20 cinebench tests are run in a row. All the while taking care to have the same water temperature between each benchmark start. Each thermal paste is applied three times with three cinebench R20 per application. The minimum delta T° value between the water and the CPU is recorded among these nine measurements.

Results:

As can be seen, the TG-002 from KFA² does not manage to match the TG-001 on heavy and short loads. However, on a longer load such as R23, the gap is greatly reduced. The TG-001 is on par with the NT-H2 or the KPX. It is an extremely powerful paste on CPU but impossible to spread with a spatula and therefore unusable on GPU.

The measurements were made with water at 28°C and a flow rate of 235L/h. Here are the details of the best measurements on nine readings by thermal paste.

KFA² TG-001 & TG-002 R23 Members of our community have also been able to get their hands on these two thermal pastes. And, the TG-002 version turns out to be a paste intended for use on GPU. In addition to its very good resistance to heavy loads, it spreads very well with a spatula as shown in this photo by Bl4ckdot.

Indeed, we have here two references sold for less than 5 €, offering high performances. However, you will have to limit yourself to a CPU use for the TG-001 and GPU for the TG-002.

KFA² TG-001 & TG-002 As a reminder, these thermal pastes are available in Spain at Coolmod for respectively 1.5 € TG-001 and 1.95 € for the TG-002. You can also find the TG-001 version between 4.5 € and 4.99 € .

KFA² TG-001 and TG-002 Thermal Paste

We liked :

  • The bundle with spatula
  • Performance on CPU
  • Easy spatula spreading for TG-002 (ideal on GPU)
  • The excellent hold in long load (ideal on GPU)
  • The price

We would have liked:

  • Performances closer to the TG-001 version for the TG-002

médaille award OMF or goldWith its TG-001 KFA²/GALAX hits hard in the thermal paste environment by offering a solution that performs better than the best references on the market at a very attractive price. A thermal paste that is perfect on CPU. The KFA² TG-002 will be a better choice on GPU, thanks to its better spreadability with a spatula.
