Project CARS is over

After a series of acquisitions worthy of the best Monopoly games, Electronic Arts found itself the owner of Slightly Mad Studios, which delighted a lot of simulation fans with 3 opuses of Project Cars. But for EA, this title doesn’t fit in the global strategy of the company and they simply decided to put an end to it. It seems that the group’s top brass concluded that it was unlikely that the title would become a hit game or that it would fit into the rest of the publisher’s racing portfolio.

Project Cars 3: the reviled version

Today we announced internally an update to our racing game portfolio. Following an evaluation of the upcoming Project CARS title and its long-term growth potential, we have made the decision to discontinue development and investment in the franchise (EA’s official statement to GamesIndustry.biz).

The Project CARS series of titles launched in 2015 with its first edition. A sequel was released in 2017. The third opus arrived in 2020 but, unlike its predecessors, this version was rather poorly received. A failure opening the way to a title like Assetto Corsa . Taking more advantage of the power of the new machines, the game quickly gained in popularity.
