PowerGPU is a boutique specializing in the assembly of customized PCs in the USA. And to say the least, the store’s CEO isn’t very happy with the practices of certain wholesalers. In fact, he says he can’t buy an RTX 5090 (tested here) for less than $3000! It’s hard to resell cards at a decent price after that.
PowerGPU complains about the behavior of certain wholesalers!
Broadly speaking, PowerGPU is a custom PC assembler. To be able to offer its PCs, the company needs a stock of components, which it obtains from a wholesaler. However, they have to buy this stock, and the difference between the purchase price and the resale price determines the margin the store makes. However, the CEO complains about the practices of certain wholesalers who sell their GPUs at inflated prices. In the case of the RTX 5090, the store is unable to acquire an RTX 5090 at a “fair” price. In his case, the CEO points out that every single RTX 5090 costs over $3000… And we’re not even talking about high-end models, but entry/mid-range cards at most. Inevitably, all this is reflected in the bill, and consumers are rightly grumbling.
What’s more, the store’s CEO also denounces NVIDIA’s insufficient production, which is driving up prices… Yes, supply can’t keep up with demande, and some people take advantage of this: in this case, it’s the wholesalers, in others, it’s the brands.
In any case, we’ll also mention the colossal difference between AMD’s and NVIDIA’s stock levels at the launch of the new card generations. Where AMD was able to supply large stacks of graphics cards, NVIDIA was only able to secure one RTX 5090. And even after mid-March, stocks are still hard to come by!
