NVIDIA’s AI cards delayed!

In November, NVIDIA announced new AI boards for China. These cards, the HGX H20, L20 PCIe and L2 PCIe, were due to arrive shortly. However, the largest of the three, the H20, has been delayed until the first quarter of 2024. Obviously, we can count on availability around February/March.

At the same time, we learn that the L20 PCIe will arrive on schedule, while nothing is said about the L2 PCIe.

As a reminder, these cards are the company’s direct response to the A800/H800 ban proposed in response to the banning of the A100 and H100.

In order to circumvent these new sanctions, the company complies with the latest American restrictions. However, the cards in question feature some serious configurations, which we present here.

The reasons for the delay are not yet very clear, but rumours suggest compatibility problems with servers in China. After that, NVIDIA believes it’s best to delay the card to fine-tune the final details. On the other hand, we learn that Huawei manages to offer chips for low-intensity workloads in this field… Which puts even more pressure on NVIDIA!
