Last July, we learned that the long-awaited NH-D15 G2 had a tiny problem, but one that could quickly become annoying. Some users were complaining of a particularly loud noise. After investigation, the brand managed to identify the source of the problem: a vibrating fin in the upper part of the heatsink. The problem has been solved!
NH-D15 G2: Noctua solves the vibrating fin problem!
To put it crudely, during transport and despite all the protection put in place around the heatsink, in certain cases a fin can act up. In practice, this translates into a metallic vibrating noise when the fan is switched on. In practical terms, we can well imagine the fin in question making a high, low, high, low sound as the air passes around it.
We can well imagine the Austrian brand passing this information on to the sites where the ventirad is produced so that this problem no longer occurs.
In the meantime, for those affected, the brand is offering several solutions, a refund or a free exchange. However, if you can’t do without a PC for the time being, the brand is offering a steel plate to be fitted to the top of the ventirad to hold the vibrating fin in place!
In any case, this is a problem that won’t recur on new products. We didn’t have to deal with it during our test of the heatsink.
Here’s the Noctua product sheet!
