A few days ago, we listed the new products that Asus would be unveiling at Computex 2024. Among them was the Rog Ally 2024. We now have all the details, and as announced earlier this week, it’s more of an evolution than a revolution . The update will be called Rog Ally X.

First of all, this version of the Asus handheld console will use the same Ryzen Z1 APUs as the previous versions, but the new version will only be equipped with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme. This is the most powerful version of the AMD APU. For the record, it has 8 cores and 16 threads, and can run at up to 5.1 GHz. For graphics, it features 12 RDNA 3 computing units and 24 MB of cache. The APU can be configured between 9 W and up to 30 W. Depending on the performance of the cooling system, performance can be enhanced. And without revolutionizing the architecture of its console, Asus has made a few changes that could prove beneficial: in particular, Asus has moved the positioning of the SD card away from the internal heatsink, which should eliminate the problems that have plagued the console in this area. Other changes to the internal layout are planned, but Asus has given no further details.
Rog Ally X: the changes :
- This is undoubtedly a key improvement for the console, since it concerns the battery. Its capacity is set to increase by 30 to 40%. According to the brand, this change means twice as much playing time as the original model.
- Storage now supports NVMe M.2 SSDs with the option of using 2,280-format media, meaning you can connect disks from 4 to 8 TB.
- RAM has also been updated, with support for DDR5 LPDDR5X-7500.
Rog Ally X: What stays the same:
- AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU
- Same 7-inch FHD display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and maximum brightness of 500 nits.
- Same aesthetics, but in black only.
- Slight price increase?
Full details will be unveiled on June 2 at an Asus-specific pre-opening event for Computex 2024.
