As for Cherry, the German brand continues to work on new switches for keyboards. This time, the brand is announcing its MX Falcon switches, whose aim, in terms of typing, is to approximate the feel of a typewriter. The result is a short keystroke with a strong tactile feel. Here’s how it works!

In terms of construction, the brand opts for low-friction materials. The outside of the switch is made of PA66 nylon, while the stem is made of POM. When struck, this reduces friction, which contributes to smooth operation. The brand doesn’t say whether its switches are lubricated or not.
As far as features are concerned, the brand is announcing a switch that is intended to be tactile, with a very pronounced typing feel. In addition, the stroke will be short, at 3.5 mm as opposed to the usual 4 mm. What’s more, you’ll need a certain amount of force to get past the activation point, since the brand’s data sheet mentions 70g with an operating force of 50g. Finally, the activation point is located at 1.7 mm, which is rather short. A “standard” switch generally offers a 2 mm point of emphasis.
Other than that, Cherry announces a particular noise with a “Hifi” sound… Don’t ask us what that means. But if the aim is to get closer to the typewriter experience, then we should find a rather heavy sound when we reach the end of the stroke.
As for sales prices, a Chinese colleague doesn’t hesitate to communicate them, but depending on the quantity purchased, we can get as low as 2.72 yuan/unit or €0.33. We’ll have to see what happens with the various taxes in France, of course.
