MSI would launch a B660 DDR4 with BCLK overclocking support

With the B660M Mortar Max WiFi DDR4, MSI could be throwing a wrench in the works. If this card really comes out, it could definitely become a highly sought after reference. Why? Simply because it would allow non-K Intel processors to be overclocked without having to use expensive DDR5 memory. So this MSI B660 in DDR4 could be quite interesting…

The “non Max” version of the MSI B660M

Indeed, according to a leak, the upcoming B660M Mortar Max WiFi DDR4 could be equipped with an external clock generator made by Renesas to drive both BCLK overclocking on non-K processors and PCIe 5.0 support. Until now, all motherboards with such a chip only supported DDR5 memory, so it was difficult to lower the acquisition budget while DDR5 remains expensive and its truly palpable advantages require large investments to be exploited.

The MSI B660 M Mortar Max WiFi DDR4: a “must have”?

MSI B660 DDR4 Another point of comparison, the only other B660 motherboards known to support BCLK overclocking are the ASUS ROG Strix B660-G Gaming WiFi and B660-F Gaming WiFi, which require DDR5 memory and charge relatively high prices for this overclocking argument. The MSi card should be available in early July and it is obviously its price that will interest us. The MAG B660M MORTAR MAX WIFI DDR4 has an excellent cooling system with extended heatpipes, a PCB with thicker 2oz copper, the M.2 Shield Frozr heatsink, and as far as connectivity is concerned, it lacks nothing with a 2.5Gbps network port, Wi-Fi 6E and USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2×2. While the US press mentions a price under the $200 mark, we have however reason to be concerned when we see that the price of its big sister (not MAX) regularly tickles the 200€…
