MSI announces four new AMD X870 motherboards

Yesterday, MSI announced four new motherboards with its X870(E) models for the new Ryzen 9000 processors. The programme includes the new Godlike, as well as the new Carbon WiFi, Tomahawk and Pro-P entry-level motherboards.

X870E Godlike, MSI’s spearhead!

MSI MEG X870E Godlike

Naturally, the biggest item in the range will be the X870E Godlike, the brand’s new top-notch board. This card is an E-ATX format model offering a host of functions.

Among them, we learn that the brand is applying a 4″ touch screen to monitor your system, of course, but also to update your bios and so on. However, once the card is mounted in a case, this functionality is less practical… Unlike the EZ Control Hub, a module connected to the motherboard via a single cable that allows you to plug all the case’s components into it: fans, RGB thingies, etc., the EZ Control Hub is not designed for use in a case.

Otherwise, the connectivity is more than complete and is oriented at 90°, particularly on the right-hand edge. Internally, there’s a PCIe x16 5.0 coupled with a second x16 (in x4) to standard 4.0 and a small x4. The storage section features four M.2s, three of which are 5.0 x4.

I/O connectivity also features two 40 Gbps USB 4s, which also act as DisplayPorts. Otherwise, there’s a plethora of 10 Gbps USBs, as well as dual Ethernet offering 10 GbE and 5 GbE speeds.

The other X870 cards:

In addition to the Godlike, three other cards come with it:

  • MPG X870E Carbon
  • MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi
  • Pro X870-P WiFi

As far as the Carbon is concerned, it’s a model that offers high performance and good construction. Unlike the Godlike and its 27 power supply phases, here we’re down to 21. We still have one PCIe 5.0 x16 paired with two PCIe 4.0 x4. At the rear, we find 40 GbpsUSB and a few less 10 Gbps ports.

Next up are the Tomahawk and Pro models, representing the mid-range and entry-level sectors. Here we have fewer power supply phases: 17 for both cards. But we still have a PCIe 5.0 slot for the graphics card and at least three M.2 slots.

In any case, we can see that all the cards in the range benefit from at least one 8-pin PCIe slot for the graphics. Likewise, simplified unlocking mechanisms are present for the graphics card, while quick-mount systems for SSDs are included.
