Seasonic unveils its MAX Flow 120 fan. A new benchmark that promises to blow… Strong, very strong! As we shall see, the product sheet for this fan is quite impressive. On the other hand, we’re dealing with a fan that spins fast while benefiting from a thick frame. The perfect recipe for high performance?
MAX Flow: 30 mm thick, 3300 rpm and plenty of airflow!
With this fan, the brand announces a new reference in 120 mm that benefits from a 30 mm thick frame. This allows the fan to feature a larger blade surface area for enhanced performance. Otherwise, from a physical point of view, the fan benefits from a frame with rubber silent blocks and nine strongly curved blades. Nevertheless, Seasonic has opted for a sober design, with a fan devoid of RGB diodes, while connectivity remains simple, provided by a single four-pin PWB cable.
When it comes to specifications, you’ll have to hold on tight, as this consumer fan will operate at up to 3300 rpm. Clearly, this is important, as most fans average around 2000 rpm. Otherwise, airflow is 154.85 CFM, while static pressure is a colossal 8.5 mmH2O. Again, on more conventional fans, these values hover around 60~70 CFM with a pressure of between 2 and 3 mmHO2.
Fortunately, a speed selector on the frame lets you choose the fan’s speed range:
- Low: from 0 to 1000 rpm
- Medium : 0 to 2000 rpm
- High : 0 to 3000 rpm
From our point of view, it would be a shame to buy such a fan and not take advantage of its full speed range. Our advice is to set its speed to High, then adjust its operating curve via your motherboard’s bios or software. If need be, you’ll have the full speed available!
Of course, the frame is thicker, which adds a constraint in terms of screws and bolts. The brand takes these issues into consideration by supplying screws for radiator mounting. Screws for case mounting are also available, and the three-pack comes with a splitter fan.
For the moment, no price has been announced… But the brand promises an affordable price. It remains to be seen what the brand’s definition of affordable is.
