Let’s be honest, Jensen Huang is a major figure today. At Computex alone, his arrival caused quite a stir, as booths were closed off when he arrived—notably at the Gigabyte and ASUS booths. The same thing happened at Cooler Master’s headquarters. But then again, it’s largely thanks to his hardware that AI can run. So when this guy auctions off one of his jackets, it goes for… some very high prices!
Jensen Huang sold one of his leather jackets for… $960,000 at auction!
A signed jacket!
We know this isn’t strictly a hardware topic, but we find it interesting because, in addition to being the CEO of an influential company, Jensen has all the makings of a superstar. This is reflected in the fact that one of his jackets sold for nearly $1,000,000 at auction—$960,000, to be precise. Indeed, the CEO of NVIDIA is known for wearing leather jackets during his product presentations and announcements. In this case, it was a Tom Ford leather jacket that was sold. When new, this jacket retails for between $9,000 and $10,000; here, it sold for 96 times its original value. Initially, the jacket was estimated to be worth between $40,000 and $60,000, and the sale generated 65 bids from 45 different collectors.
A sale to benefit the Edge Institute:
Of course, Jensen didn’t sell his jacket just like that, out of pure vanity, since the sale was organized by Long Journey Venture… It was a charity auction, with proceeds going to the Edge Institute, “a nonprofit organization bringing together leaders in technology, science, culture, and society.” The money raised from this sale will be used to fund scholarships, grants, and residencies for its members. In any case, the auction was organized by Sotheby’s, while the buyer’s identity remains unknown. It’s also worth noting that the jacket was worn by NVIDIA’s CEO in 2023 during Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei.
