Not long ago, we were talking about a “revitalized” B760 with PCIe 5.0, but this is something else entirely. While the AM4 platform is now reaching a respectable age, Gigabyte seems determined to extend its lifespan even further. The manufacturer has quietly added two new motherboards to its catalog: the B450M D3HP and B450M D3HP WIFI6E. What sets them apart is their use of the AMD B450 chipset, launched in 2018—eight years ago. These aren’t simply revamped versions of older models, but rather two new models designed specifically for this platform.
The return of the B450, 8 years after its launch
Both motherboards feature a Micro-ATX form factor and a 4+2-phase digital power delivery system. They also offer four DDR4 DIMM slots. Gigabyte announces official compatibility with AMD Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 4000, and Ryzen 5000 processors, allowing users to choose from a wide range of AM4 CPUs.
Storage is handled by two M.2 slots. The first is directly connected to the processor and operates at PCIe 3.0 x4, while the second, connected to the B450 chipset, is limited to PCIe 2.0 x2. Four SATA 6 Gb/s connectors round out the lineup.
Despite its older chipset, the B450M D3HP incorporates several features found on newer Gigabyte motherboards. These include Q-Flash Plus, an internal 5 Gb/s USB-C connector for the case front panel, Smart Fan 6 management, and three addressable RGB headers. Video connectivity includes one DisplayPort 1.2 and two HDMI 2.0b outputs. For networking, this version features a Realtek Gigabit Ethernet controller.
Wi-Fi 6E on a 2018 Platform
The B450M D3HP WIFI6E uses the same technical foundation but, as expected, adds Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Gigabyte claims a maximum data rate of up to 2.4 Gb/s, with support for the 6 GHz band. The motherboard also retains its Gigabit Ethernet port. This combination thus brings significantly more up-to-date wireless connectivity to a platform that remains limited to PCIe 3.0 on the processor side.
Gigabyte has not yet announced any pricing or provided details regarding the regional availability of the two cards. Their release in 2026 is nonetheless surprising and shows that the manufacturer still considers it relevant to offer new models based on the AM4 socket and the B450 chipset, eight years after its launch.
