Intel would lower the prices of its Alder Lake processors

It’s hard to understand what’s going on in the minds of Intel’s decision makers at the moment. Not long ago, we learned that the blueprints were going to increase the prices of the 12th generation CPUs…But in fact, a new rumor indicates that it is the opposite that is being prepared. According to industry sources, Intel is preparing to apply a price cut of up to 20% on its Alder Lake CPUs. A drop that would affect all references including the largest versions.

Finally, a price cut for the Alder Lake range?

Behind this new strategy, we must read between the lines and understand what is happening on the market. In fact, at the very end of last year, Intel increased the “recommended customer price” of its Alder Lake CPUs. A very theoretical increase even though officially the price of the Core i9-12900K went from $589 to $649. However, this increase has not been reflected in the final selling price found in stores. There are several possible explanations for this situation. First, the inventory still present at the old price. Given the apathy of the demand, the volumes have difficulty to move. Finally, the position of the resellers who suspect that, given the situation, an increase would not really help things…

In order to project a little and draw some plans on the comet, @harukaze5719 has made a small table which materializes this price drop on the whole Alder Lake range. Beware we are obviously on pure speculation at this time. However, with the euphoria coming to an end, some manufacturers seem to realize that only a significant drop in prices will boost consumption and the renewal of existing equipment.
