It’s almost a classic Rockstar Games routine. The company has officially postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) by almost 6 months. Originally scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, it is now scheduled for November 19. It’s important to note that if this date doesn’t slip again, it won’t mean a PC release. In fact, for the moment, this release date concerns the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. We’ll have to keep a close eye on this timetable, because while for months a new generation of Playstation and Xbox has been mooted for 2027, recent rumors have pointed to the end of 2026 for the next Xbox.

GTA VI: at least another year to wait

GTA VI is awaited by the entire industry (hardware included) as the magic potion that will boost sales across an entire sector. The wait for this title is so great that many publishers have taken steps to ensure that their games are not released at the same time as GTA VI. It’s possible that some hardware players are also trying to set their schedules around this title, in order to ride the wave.

Hello everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI will now be released on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We’re sorry to add to what has already been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you expect and deserve.

We’d like to thank you once again for your patience and support. The wait may be a little longer, but we can’t wait for players to discover the vast kingdom of Leonida and return to Vice City in modern times.

Sincerely, the Rockstar Games team

Tensions have been running high at Rockstar Games for months. In the last few hours, a demonstration outside the company’s Edinburgh offices brought together dozens of people to denounce the dismissal of some thirty employees. The company is on the hunt for sources of repeated leaks about its new title. The employees concerned by this procedure are accused of having shared “confidential information”, while the IWGB (Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain) sees it as “the most ruthless act of union busting (…) in the video game industry”.
