Another episode of the weirdness that can occur at customs posts between China and Hong Kong. Indeed, the customs got hold of a shipment of lobsters and graphic cards: 70 to be precise! Between that and the SSDs hidden in an electric scooter it’s sure that they must see some strange things.
Customs seize a shipment of graphics cards in Hong Kong!
Clearly, this shipment is interesting to say the least, since it included no less than 280 kg of live lobster and… 70 graphics cards. It doesn’t look like it, but the estimated value by customs is more than $76000. However, in our opinion, it is not the graphics cards that are worth the most in this case.
Indeed, the cards are quite old since we are talking about old NVIDIA Quadro K2200. Despite the fact that these are pro cards, they date back to 2014 and occupied the entry-level sector. In terms of performance, it doesn’t go far as we are at the level of a GTX 750 Ti. In the same vein, this is not a card that stands out for having a large amount of memory since it only has 4GB of GDDR5.
In any case, if they were seized, it’s because they were not declared at customs. It should be noted that Hong Kong does not apply any VAT on the products sold while it is 13% in China. We understand then the why of the how.
