On Amazon US, processor sales are literally plummeting. In fact, for the first quarter of 2026 (which is not yet over), the results show a nearly 50% drop in sales. The reasons are simple:RAM prices are too high, as are storage costs, and all of this is causing a significant slowdown in the market. Furthermore, customers who continue to buy are turning to more affordable CPUs, such as AM4 models.
Amazon US: a dramatic drop in CPU sales!
In the first quarter of 2026, CPU sales are plummeting on Amazon US. In fact, we’re talking about a drop in processor sales of around 50%—47% to be precise. To put it simply, while the site recorded over 40,000 CPUs sold in December 2025, February saw sales of approximately 25,700 units. Granted, one could argue that February is a shorter month and that December is a peak shopping season, but sales have nearly halved!
Obviously, the reason behind this drop in sales is clear: RAM and storage prices. While CPU prices haven’t skyrocketed like those of other components, customers aren’t going to buy processors without pairing them with a RAM kit or build a PC without storage.
As we’ve seen, those who continue to buy are mostly turning to budget-friendly solutions that can be paired with an affordable motherboard andDDR4, which is slightly cheaper thanDDR5. It is in this context that the Ryzen 5 5500 became the best-selling processor in the U.S. store alongside the 9800X3D. In France, we are in a similar situation where AM4 is regaining popularity, once again, mainly due toDDR5 prices.
