Compatible cartridges, HP blocks printers!

HP does not want you to save money on ink cartridges. Indeed, via a recent update of the firmware of its devices, the printers of the brand can be blocked if they detect compatible cartridges.

HP: beware of printers that block in case of compatible cartridges!

Imprimante HPIn this area, we can not say that it is the great love between manufacturers and users. Indeed, the first try to sell their devices with certified cartridges, while the second want to make maximum savings on the consumable. And it is understandable, at a rate of 15 € per cartridge (depending on the model), multiplied by four (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), we quickly arrive at 60 € to fill up his device. It’s even more annoying when the machine refuses to work when the cartridges are half consumed… We all knew that.

In short, HP is tightening the screws further with a new firmware update for its printers. If they detect compatible cartridges, they can simply stop working. So of course, depending on the references, it is possible to bypass this restriction via the settings of the device, but obviously, this is not the case for all models.

Also note that these restrictions come into play after the deployment of a new license agreement… The kind of thing you need to read, but that few people do.

Behind this maneuver, the company advances reasons related to the security of its devices, intellectual protection, but also users. The company says that malware attacks can be conducted via the electronics of the cartridges not certified by the company.

In our opinion, HP is using the argument of user security to prevent users from switching to inexpensive third-party cartridges. You only have to compare the prices of compatible cartridges and official ones to understand the loss of revenue on the side of the printer manufacturers. Now, the question remains to know who will follow HP.
