In 2022, Intel made its entry into the dedicated graphics card sector… It wasn’t all plain sailing, with the A380’s lacklustre launch made up for by that of the A750 and A770. Finally, this year saw the arrival of the A580. But that’s just the beginning – the next generation will arrive in 2024 with Battlemage.
Battlemage: due in 2024!
If the timetable is too short for 2023 – the year necessarily ends in a few days’ time – it’s safer to bet on launching the architecture in 2024. In fact, various clues led us to believe that the Blues were working on their architecture… In particular, GPUs visible in the brand’s labs earlier this year.
Now, a new roadmap has surfaced, presented at a conference held in Tokyo, Japan. The roadmap clearly indicates that the architecture is expected for 2024. Looking at older documents shared by the company, Battlemage is the successor to Alchemist.
Unfortunately, the roadmap makes no mention of a launch date, so it’s unlikely that the cards will arrive early this year.
At present, it’s still unclear what this generation will offer. However, while the first cards were content to compete with NVIDIA and AMD in the entry/mid-range sector, this one should be able to compete at the top end of the market. At least, that’s what some rumors suggest. What’s more, new features such as Intel’s Frame Generation could be on the cards. Finally, this generation is expected to be engraved in 4 nm by TSMC. To be continued.
