Ayaneo has just unveiled its Next II, which the brand describes as the most high-end portable gaming PC console available today. It’s obviously its gargantuan hardware that makes this claim. This newcomer is a Windows machine designed to crush the Steam Deck, ROG Xbox Ally and Legion Go in one fell swoop.

Ayaneo NEXT II: A monster of performance (and size/price)?

In detail, this console is built around a 9.06-inch custom OLED screen offering a resolution of 2400×1504 pixels and a variable refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, with an overall maximum brightness of 1100 nits. What’s more, this display features PWM dimming at 5280 Hz, for a fluid, immersive visual experience. At the heart of the device is the AMD Ryzen AI Max 395 Strix Halo APU. This is configured with a TDP of up to 85 W, thanks to a dual-fan cooling system. To back it all up, NEXT II features an impressive 115 Wh internal battery, avoiding the problems encountered on competing Strix Halo portable consoles. However, weight and actual autonomy have yet to be confirmed.

Ergonomic features include Hall-effect sticks and triggers, an 8-way floating D-pad and two intelligent TouchTAPMagic touchpads for pad, mouse and macro functions. In addition, four geometric rear buttons, four additional function keys and front stereo speakers complete the chassis design. Even though many details are still missing before we can make up our minds, it’s clear that the massive design and weight of this new console are not going to help. The budget will also be very important. While nothing is said about the console’s RAM/SSD accompaniment, the presence of the Ryzen AI Max 395 already suggests that no version of this console will be positioned under $2,000.
