Just after demonstrating the capabilities and durability of its new power connector, ASUS has decided to launch its RTX 5090 Astral BTF. What’s so special about this model? Dual power connectors, one in 12V-2×6, the classic connector, the other in GC-HPWR, the famous ASUS in-house connector!
RTX 5090 Astral BTF: two power connectors for this model!
With this card, ASUS offers a high-end model compatible with its BTF ecosystem. As you can see, in the PCIe extension there’s an additional connector, the famous GC-HPWR. On this generation of cards, it’s completely removable, so if you buy a BTF graphics card, you’ll no longer be “married to it”, as the card can be plugged into any motherboard on the market.
In terms of resistance, it’s clearly solid, Tony Yu having demonstrated its capabilities by simulating very high loads passing through it. Indeed, even at 1900W of power, it’s a walk in the park. The reason behind this is simple: it’s a metal connector with thick, solid pins that allow high power to pass through. As a result, there’s little heat build-up and no melting of cables. This is what we’d like to see instead of the 16-pin connector that melts as soon as it’s upset!
On a more serious note, the card is based on the design of the original ROG Astral. This model boasts four fans and imposing dimensions of 35.7 cm in length and four slots in thickness. Naturally, all this is designed to accommodate a colossal heatsink with a steam chamber. As for frequencies, we learn that ASUS will offer one version with factory overclocking and a second board with reference frequencies.
The price is not yet known.
