This is still speculation, even if the leak on which this article is based is real. It allows us to evaluate the iGPU graphics performance of future AMD and Intel platforms. On the red side, we have the Radeon 890M graphics unit, future top-of-the-range with RDNA 3.5 architecture. In its configuration within the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the iGPU would integrate up to 16 CUs with 1,024 shaders and would be coupled with LPDDR5X at 7,500 MT/s. AMD claims that it is capable of beating an RTX 2050 chip at 45W. However, to come close to this performance, the 890M will have a 54W ceiling. Intel is announcing some excellent surprises, with Lunar Lake featuring its new Battlemage graphics architecture. The blue range will be unveiled in the next few days, a few hours before IFA opens, and will feature an Arc 140V iGPU to rival AMD’s Core Ultra 7 268V.

Radeon 890M vs Intel Arc A140V

Based on leaked tests of the GPD Pocket 4 (equipped with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370) and the latest Lunar Lake leaks, we have some figures evaluating the 890M and 140V under 3DMark.

The Core Ultra 7 268V with Arc 140V achieves around 3,438 points on Time Spy, close to the 3,647 points of AMD’s 890M, with a similar power consumption of 45W. With PL1 and PL2 values of 17W and 30W respectively, the Arc 140V operates at 2 GHz. The top-of-the-range option, the Core Ultra 9 288V, shows a slight improvement with 2.05 GHz and 30W. By comparison, the 890M at 2.9 GHz is around 4% more powerful than the Arc 140V at 2.05 GHz. The first observation is therefore relatively straightforward: the two iGPUs are very similar, with two architectures displaying totally different objectives. With Lunar Lake, Intel is targeting Ultrabooks, where power consumption is a priority, while AMD aims to position its chips on high-performance notebooks. However, while these results should be treated with caution, never before have the two companies been so close in terms of iGPU power.
