AMD is preparing a potential RX 9050!

In the graphics card sector, we have AMD working on a potential RX 9050. With this card, the brand wants to offer a true entry-level model, but the feedback from supply chain players raises questions. On paper, the card would be better equipped than the RX 9060, but with lower frequencies.

RX 9050: a bigger GPU than the RX 9060?

Is the performance gap down to frequencies?

RX 9060

Of course, all this must be taken with caution, since the characteristics announced for the moment are not the final specs. However, the data sheet that has come to light shows a card based on a Navi 44 (the same GPU as the RX 9060), but with 2048 stream processors. This is backed up by a total of 8 GB GDDR6 coupled to a 128-bit memory bus. As for frequency, we’re talking about a 1920 MHz game clock with a boost to 2600 MHz.

RX 9050 specs

In concrete terms, we find the same memory section as the RX 9060, with a GPU that boasts more stream processors. As a reminder, the RX 9060 boasts a GPU with 1792 stream processors. However, to counterbalance a chip that performs better on paper, we’re talking about seriously reduced frequencies. The boost loses 530 MHz, while the game clock loses 610 MHz, a reduction of 17% and 24% respectively.

Modded vBIOS to make up the difference?

Obviously, with a GPU displaying similar characteristics to an RX 9060 XT, albeit with less VRAM , the temptation to overclock the card will be very strong… All the more so as this series is capable of very high frequencies: 2990 MHz for the RX 9060 vs. 3130 MHz for the RX 9060 XT. It remains to be seen whether the card is equipped with GPUs that were destined for the scrap heap because they were unable to cope with such high frequencies… Or whether there will be a change in specifications (fewer stream processors) between now and launch, to redress the balance with the RX 9060 series.
