RTX 50 Super: Shipped to Partners, but VRAM Prices Are Too High!

A new installment in our RTX 50 Super series reveals that NVIDIA’s partners reportedly already have the chips in hand. However, the very high prices of memory are keeping the launch on hold for now. In fact, the reason the cards haven’t been launched yet is simply due to VRAM prices—VRAM that’s also found in other products aimed at the AI sector. As is often the case, resources are being allocated to the most lucrative sectors—in this case, artificial intelligence!

But VRAM is too expensive!

Broadly speaking, NVIDIA’s partners—companies like ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and even the Palit Group, among others—are reportedly in possession of the chips. Unfortunately, the high cost of memory is currently preventing any launch. In fact, these cards are expected to use GDDR7 chips with 3 GB each—a density boost that allows for increased VRAM capacity without major changes to the GPU. However, these same chips are used elsewhere in NVIDIA’s lineup—yes, in products designed for AI. We’re talking about professional cards like the RTX Pro 6000 or the Rubin CPX.

Of course, this use in the AI sector means that the supply of chips is even more limited for the consumer market, and prices are skyrocketing. In the meantime, prices are so high that it’s discouraging the launch of these cards. Specifically, we’re talking about a price of $60 to $70 per 3 GB chip, compared to about $20 for a 2 GB module—that’s insane! On the other hand, what’s the point of launching a product that won’t sell?

RTX 50 Super: the same cards, with more memory!

The expected approach is well-known, as NVIDIA would likely simply offer a lineup of cards equipped with 3 GBVRAM modules. This would increase the total VRAM capacity without having to make major changes to the GPU. So, we’d have:

  • RTX 5070 Super, which goes from 12 to 18 GB
  • RTX 5070 Ti Super, increasing from 16 GB to 24 GB
  • RTX 5080 Super, increasing from 16 GB to 24 GB

We would also see an increase in power consumption for these cards, as reported by Seasonic’s power calculator. The RTX 5070 Super would go from 250W to 275W (+25W), the RTX 5070 Ti from 300W to 350W (+50W), and the RTX 5080 Super from 360W to 415W (+55W). These power increases could be related to higher clock speeds.
