AMD is said to be working on another processor using 3D V-Cache memory, as this new entry in PassMark seems to attest. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 9700X3D makes an appearance in the software’s database with high frequencies and a high score, higher than that of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. A test carried out under special conditions? Perhaps.
Ryzen 7 9700X3D: a first appearance on PassMark!
As you can see, this processor, like the 9800X3D, also boasts a total of 8 cores and 16 threads. De facto, it’s not hard to guess that the processor will carry a total of 96 MB of L3 cache memory via the 32 MB built into its CCD and the 64 MB added by 3D V-Cache. However, where the specifications raise questions is on the reported frequency: 5.8 GHz. It should be pointed out that the 9800X3D doesn’t run as fast: 5.2 GHz in turbo mode. We’re probably dealing with special test conditions, or even overclocking .
In any case, the scores displayed are 4687 pts in single-thread mode versus 40438 pts in multi-thread mode. De facto, it’s between 1% and 5% ahead of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, reinforcing the idea that the CPU isn’t running to its original specifications…if there is any.
In short, with the 9700X3D we can already see the picture taking shape since, like the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, AMD could use it to eventually stop the 9800X3D… The aim would be to offer a more affordable alternative, albeit with slightly lower performance. Bear in mind, however, that this would not be the only X3D processor AMD is currently working on. A recent rumor mentioned Ryzen 7 9850X3D (8c/16t at 5.6 GHz, 96 MB L3 @120W), Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 (16c/32t at 5.6 GHz, 192 MB L3 @200W) and a small Ryzen 5 7500X3D (6c/12t and 96 MB L3) in the pipeline.
