The GPU market grows slightly in Q4 2024

Jon Peddie Research shares its findings on the GPU market. In fact, in Q4 2024, no fewer than 76.9 million GPUs were shipped, an increase of 4.4% on Q3 2024. However, with NVIDIA’s launch a complete dud, we’re curious to see the figures for Q1 2025.

Small increase in the GPU market in Q4 2024!

Marché du GPU T4 2024In the fourth quarter of 2024, we learn that the GPU market posted small growth, not much: +4.4%. However, this growth was mainly driven by an increase in the number of shipments of chips for data centres (13.8%) and laptops (1%). As things stand, dedicated GPUs are down by 5.4%.

Year-on-year, GPU shipments fell by 0.9%. According to JPR, the threat of tariffs is one of the reasons for this. According to the analyst, consumers are either rushing out to buy or not buying at all.

In more detail, we learn that NVIDIA has lost ground, if we include Intel and AMD. Of course, we’re talking about all types of GPU here, which includes iGPUs for processors, etc., etc. We’re talking about a loss of 3.3% on the Green side, while AMD and Intel are posting gains of +1.3% and +1.9% respectively. In reality, if the Greens have lost ground, it is mainly because the company has had difficulty in meeting demand.

Finally, JPR estimates that the GPU market will grow by +1.4% CAGR between 2024 and 2028.

And what about CPUs?

A quick word on the processor market, where we learn that desktop models are growing in relation to their laptop counterparts. In fact, their share rose by 1%. Desktop CPUs grew by +4.6% year-on-year, and by +7.8% compared with Q3 2024. Overall, 71.7 million CPUs were shipped at the end of 2024.
