While patch 0x114 was due to be available in the first half of January, ASUS seems to have released it ahead of schedule. TechpowerUp therefore took its Maximus Z890 Hero with the latest bios (not in beta phase either) and put this 0x114 patch to the test. The result? Well, it’s not so great after all…
0x114: TechpowerUp puts it to the test!
As a reminder, at the time of their launch, Arrow Lake processors were disappointing in terms of in-game performance, falling (far?) behind the fourteenth-generation Core I processors. Of course, Intel has promised a patch to restore their CPUs to their former glory.
In the meantime, the brand indicated in a press release that it had identified the causes of these disappointing performances and that some of them were being corrected via Windows and bios updates. Finally, the 0x114 patch was supposed to be the culmination of all these efforts to restore processor performance, but…
In a dedicated test, our colleagues looked at the gains made by all of Intel’s patches… Unfortunately, the results are mixed. Depending on the game, there are significant gains, especially when faced with a fresh installation of Windows 11 24H2 with the old patch, 0x113. However, in absolute terms, the patch and the Windows updates do not change the positioning of the CPUs in the rankings compared with AMD Ryzen or even the fourteenth-generation Core i.
The question now is where the problem lies. If the problem is linked to the architecture of the processor itself, unfortunately all the patches in the world won’t improve performance… At least, not to the point of competing with a Core i9 14900K, for example. Just goes to show that there’s often a world of difference between manufacturers’ claims and actual performance.
