Alan Wake II: new patch, big FPS gains!

Alan Wake II is clearly not a video game that could run on a toaster, as is the case with Prince of Persia, for example. No, in that case, you’d need a big configuration, and even with that, the framerate can be approximate. It’s even worse on older cards, such as GTX 10. Indeed, the game requires a DirectX 12 Ultimate-compatible card, which is not the case with this series. And without that, there’s no support for Mesh Shading, so performance is at an all-time low.

Fortunately, the game’s new patch brings optimizations for these cards, which benefit from serious performance gains. In some cases, framerates are even doubled!

Alan Wake II: FPS doubled on older graphics cards!

Alan Wake II performance GTX 1060

This new patch optimizes the game for cards that don’t support mesh shading, and the benefits are quickly felt. Digital Foundry reports performance increases of 45% to 100% for the GTX 1080 Ti in particular.

On the scene selected by the YouTube channel, a GTX 1060 goes from 18 FPS to 25 FPS with the patch. On other scenes, the game becomes playable, reaching 43 FPS where the title ran at 15 FPS on the same card. On average, count on 30 FPS with a 1060, although the minimum to enjoy the game is a GTX 1070 or RX 5600 XT, according to Remedy.

Obviously, the patch is not yet available, but it will be shortly. It is expected this week.
