The Threadripper Pro 7000 processors are just around the corner, with an announcement scheduled for October 19. So there’s not much time left before AMD renews its workstation processors!
Threadripper Pro 7000, announcement on October 19?
On the program, we’re expecting some really pissed-off processors, spearheaded by the Pro 7995WX with 96 cores and 192 threads. The rest of the range will feature four other processors. The number of cores would start at twelve and gradually increase, with 16-core, 32-core and 64-core references. Of course, frequencies have yet to be determined, but we do know that some references will boast 5.1 GHz. On the other hand, expect to have to install robust cooling systems, since TDPs are expected to be 350W.
New features include Zen 4 cores, and these CPUs will also benefit from up to 8 channels of DDR5 memory. As with the other Threadrippers series, there will be a total of 128 PCIe lines… But in PCIe 5.0 this time. Naturally, these processors will run on a Storm Peak platform equipped with TRX50/WRX50 chipsets. Finally, the amount of cache is simply massive: 480 MB in total, including 384 MB in L3 alone!
Despite an announcement, tentatively scheduled for October 19, we can expect retail availability to be fairly low. Indeed, these models will be aimed more at the OEM/pre-build market. Perhaps AMD is planning to launch them later in the DIY sector, as was the case with the Threadripper Pro 5000?
