Apex storage continues to come up with crazy add-in-cards. After the X21 AIC, it’s time for the X16 AIC. In simple terms, these are PCIe expansion cards capable of accommodating a large number of SSDs- in this case, up to 16!
X16 AIC: up to sixteen SSDs on one PCIe card!
The X16 AIC is a PCIe expansion card. It features a total of sixteen M.2 2280 slots, distributed as follows: 8x on the front, 8x on the rear. An active heatsink is also included. Its purpose is to cool the PLX controller located just below it.
Moreover, so many SSDs eat up a few watts, which is why there’s an auxiliary power connector. This is a six-pin PCIe , an endangered species.
Now, on the performance side, the brand announces that its card features 84 PCIe 4.0 lines. What’s more, the maximum storage capacity is 128TB, while read/write speeds are 31Gb/s. Finally, Apex Storage mentions fullUEFI and Secure Boot support.
As for prices, the X16 AIC is priced at $1799.99, compared with $2799.99 for the X21 and its 21 possible SSDs.
