New power supply presentation with, this time, a new block from FSP. Indeed, the brand has just sent us their latest power supply, the Hydro PTM Pro 1200W ATX3.0. As you can see, this is a last generation power supply with the famous new 12VHPWR connector while conforming to the ATX 3.0 standard.
Presentation of the Hydro PTM Pro ATX 3.0 series:
With this new series of power supplies, the brand offers us a series that wants to be high-end, both by the power displayed and by the performance … Not to mention the bill, but we have nothing without anything, let’s say it. On the other hand, it is a range that wants to comply with the new power supply standards since this series displays its ATX 3.0 conformity.
Currently, this series only offers two powers: 1200W and 1000W. At least, only these two powers are referenced on the manufacturer’s website. Nevertheless, if we look at the images put forward, a third block of 850W is also on the program. What we will remember is that with such power, these power supplies are intended for high-end configurations with demanding graphics cards and CPUs.
We will also remember a long warranty of 10 years. So if you are the type of person who changes components with each generation, this is a block that will see a lot of components go through!
Unpacking:
As far as packaging is concerned, we find a rather classic box for a power supply. This box highlights the power supply on the front as well as its compliance with the new electrical standards, we think of PCIe 5.0 and ATX 3.0. The performance is also highlighted, as well as the warranty or the choice of components.
At the back, we have the right to an open view of this Hydro PTM Pro 1200W ATX 3.0 highlighting various features. We think of the semi-passive operation of the ventilation or the specific treatments to make the block resistant to dust and moisture.
The interior remains quite classic with a power supply resting in foam protections on one side. On the other side is the connectivity, well packed in a canvas bag.

So we attack by the physical dimensions of this power supply that is very deep. Indeed, with its 19 cm depth, clearly, it will not be necessary to have a hard disk cage positioned in front of the power supply. This could seriously complicate its insertion into the PC. Moreover, to give you an idea, this reference measures 1 cm more in depth than the HX1000i from Corsair which was already imposing (18 cm). Otherwise for the width and height, these are the standard dimensions, namely 15 cm x 8.6 cm.
In addition, the finish is excellent … At least, as far as it can. The shell is covered with a very nice black paint slightly shiny. Moreover, to the touch, we find a slightly grainy coating. Finally, on the sides, blue stickers with the reference of the series are present: “FSP Hydro PTM Pro”. Moreover, several markings are present as a “Hydro PTM” at the fan grill or the connector. Finally, a ” Power Never Ends ” is also present just below the IEC C14.
Once again, we are dealing with a fully modular power supply. Thus, when leaving the box, no cable is present on the block. They will be connected to the power supply during assembly. The advantage of the system: only connect what you need. This saves a lot of space in the box. In addition, the new connector for the power supply of graphics cards is also noticeable. Indeed, the 12VHPWR is present here.
At the back of the power supply we have something usual since we find the port for the power cord, the famous IEC C14. The power switch is also present as well as the very large rear grill to facilitate heat evacuation. However, we find an additional switch in the presence of the Eco mode. This last one will simply allow to activate or not the semi-passive mode of the fan…
And since we talk about it, you should know that the cooling of the power supply is provided by a fan whose size is not specified. But after measurement, we are dealing with a mill of 135 mm. The latter, as we told you, via the Eco mode will be able to operate in a semi-passive way. Thus, as long as the load has not reached 30%, it will not engage so as to remain perfectly silent.
A quick word on the electrical part:
On the electrical side, the power supply sheet indicates that this Hydro PTM Pro 1200W ATX 3.0 has a single 12V rail. This one proposes a high intensity of 100A, that is to say 1200W only on this rail! Clearly, it will be able to supply the processor part as well as the graphic card(s) without sweating. Otherwise, the other rails propose amperages of 20A for the +3,3V as well as the +5V. The combined power is then 120W. On the other side of the table, we have the -12V which displays 0.3A while the +5Vsb is at 3A for a combined power of 18.6W.
With this, we can count on an 80+ Platinum certification that ensures an efficiency of at least 94% at 50% load.
Regarding the protections, the brand puts forward all that is needed with:
- OVP: Over Voltage Protection
- OCP: Over Current Protection
- SCP: Short Circuit Protection
- OPP: Over Power Protection
- OTP: Over Temperature Protection
- UVP: Under Voltage Protection
In terms of design, Hydro PTM Pro 1200W ATX3.0 is based on a half-bridge LLC design with DC-DC circuitry. The block is advertised to provide strict voltage regulation with ±1% variations. The components are of high quality, especially the main capacitors which are two models from Rubycon. Let’s not forget the presence of a coating making this model resistant to dust, humidity (95%) and stains.
Of course, we find a modern design with very little internal wiring. The only ones that are visible are those to connect the power socket to the rest of the PCB as well as those used to connect the various switches. We can also notice several additional circuits, including the one for connecting the cables. Finally, several heatsinks are present here and there for the cooling of the various heating elements.
In addition, the block is compliant with the ATX 3.0 standard. This compliance allows the power supply to provide up to twice its power in a short period of time. Thus, our FSP block can provide, over a period of 100µs 2400W and this, in order to counteract the consumption peaks.
Cables and bundle :
At the level of accessories FSP proposes us:

We now move to the level of cables:

- 1x EPS12V 4+4 pins of 70 cm (one cable)
- 2x EPS12V 4+4 pins of 70 cm + 15 cm (one cable)
- 1x 12VHPWR 12+4 pins of 70 cm
- 4x SATA 50 cm + 15.5 cm + 15.5 cm + 15.5 cm (two cables)
- 2x SATA + 2x Molex 50 cm + 15.5 cm + 15.5 + 10 cm (two cables)
- 2x SATA + 1x Molex + 1x Floppy of 50 cm + 15.5 cm + 15.5 cm + 15.5 cm (one cable)
Clearly, in terms of cabling, FSP offers us all the necessary connectors for high-end configurations. One thinks in particular of the presence of the three EPS12V for the CPU or the 12VHPWR used to power the biggest RTX 40 from NVIDIA. Otherwise, the SATA part is present in significant numbers with no less than fourteen connectors. The same goes for the molex with 5 connectors.
However, apart from the 12VHPWR which is sheathed, the rest is rather basic as it remains flat and black. A little more sheathing would have been welcome, like what we find at NZXT and its C series.
In short :
With this block, the brand offers us a high-end reference, but particularly imposing. Indeed, with its 19 cm, it will not fit in all cases on the market. If you are looking at this model, make sure you can remove the hard disk cage in front of it to free up as much space as possible. Because yes, in addition to the case, you need to allow a few extra centimeters for the cable sleeves and the cables themselves.
Moreover, since we’re talking about it, you should know that this model comes with enough power to feed muscular configurations. But above all, we will remember the presence of a 12VHPWR connector currently used on the new NVIDIA graphics cards, the RTX 4000. However, we would have liked to have at least a sheath for the cables, rather than having them sheathed strand by strand.
However, the accessory section is still complete with a shunting block and stickers to customize the power supply.
As for the price, beware of the high note since this model is traded between 260 € and 400 € on the internet. It must be said that we find a model certified 80+ Platinum which already offers good performance, in addition to being ATX 3.0 compliant, the new standard for our power supplies.
