96-core Threadripper 9000 spotted in shipping manifest

Now that Zen 5 has arrived, AMD is busy rolling out different versions of its architecture. Of course, there will be a server/pro version via the Epyc models, but also, it seems, a HEDT version with a Threadripper 9000 range. A shipping manifest confirms all this, mentioning the code name “Shimada Peak”.

Threadripper 9000: 96-core model spotted!

Threadripper 9000

If early rumors are to be believed, Threadripper 9000 processors will be based on Zen 5 architecture, and should feature a similar organization to current models, with a 96-core spearhead. These cores will be distributed across twelve eight-core CCDs, all coupled to a single I/O die.

The other good news is that this 9000 series should use the current TRX50 and WRX90 platforms, so there will be no motherboard changes to be made, just bios updates to support these new processors. At least, that’s what we seem to be told.

However, even if a processor of this generation has been spotted, we shouldn’t expect a launch in the near future. Indeed, according to TechpowerUp, we can expect a similar delay between the launch of the Ryzen 7000 and the Threadripper 7000, which saw the light of day in October 2023 as a reminder. AMD’s next announcements should therefore concern professional products.
